Pain in dogs chest when attempting to pick up?

About 2 days ago, my mom and I came home from shopping, and our dog odie started limping and yelping. When we barely touched his leg, he would yelp and cry like a baby. After a few hours, he didn't seem to feel pain when we touched his legs, but just last night, we figured out he had pains in his chest when we tried to pick him up. We think he may have fallen off this reclining chair that was rather high off the ground, and a chair which odie liked to sit on. It was the tallest thing in the house, and had a very narrow spot for sitting on. If he did fall, and if this pain continues, should we take him to the vet? P.S. He is a rather old dog (11, turning 12 in February) so it may be him getting old, but that probably wouldn't explain the limping.
