Putting eye ointment in my cat's eye is making me feel awful. Anyone else just get anxiety over it?

My cat has a stye above his eye from an infected hair follicle. He does not like being handled, but he's not aggressive. He just tries to muscle away, so I normally sit over him and keep him in position with my legs (I've tried everything else, from holding him on the couch and giving him support with one arm to getting him behind the neck like a mom and lifting his head). He starts doing this meow that sounds more helpless and worried, and then after I apply it, he's scared for a little bit. He gets better and cuddles with me (woke up with me all excited as normal), but I have to apply this twice a day through Thursday, and I just feel bad each time leading up to it. I hate that I have to go home after work this morning and put it in and scare him since he's going to be excited to see me.

I know this probably sounds a little wimpy to some, and honestly, this is going to make him feel better, so I feel I should just do it with the reality that his eye will feel better eventually. But I just HATE that he feels helpless, scared and confused over his owner, you know? Breaks my heart to begin and end the day with him confused and scared, not to mention throwing up Saturday night (he did this two years ago when he had allergies).

I'm going to give him the medication as I'm supposed to, of course. But I just wanted to "vent" that it gives me a little anxiety that he's going to feel confused and helpless in his home and wonder if anyone feels the same way. It's hard enough to keep a cat still; it stinks even more that they're colder to you for a little while.
