Advice: What's the right time to adopt?

Advice: What's the right time to adopt?

Hello, I am eager to adopt my first cat (I've had dogs all my life), but I don't know whether now is the right time. For background, I'm currently a college senior living in an apartment in Boston. After I graduate in May, I'll be moving to New York where I'll be starting a job and working ~100 hour weeks. My thought is that being in my last semester right now, I'm often home and have a lot of time to spare (I only have class 3 days a week); this would potentially be a great time to spend/bond with a new rescue before moving. However, I will have to go back to CA in June for a few weeks to collect my stuff/spend time with my family before moving to New York. I wouldn't want to traumatize my rescue with unneeded travel so I would consider a pet hotel/babysitter in New York while I was gone! The alternative would be to adopt once I move to New York; however, I would be working long hours (again, ~100 per week) so I wouldn't have as much time to help the rescue acclimate. Willing to hear anyone's thoughts/advice on the situation!
