Cross-posting on new parents as well; hoping to get some advice to help us out!
My 8-Year-Old Lab/Shep/Chow Chow Mix adores our 3-month-old daughter, she loves to give her lots of kisses and we let her, but sometimes she comes on a bit strong. We nicely tell her "thank you, I think she's had enough kisses now, come lay down" but she almost gets obsessive over it, and we have to pull her away to get her to stop. She has now started to try to lay ON TOP of the baby. We are very careful watching her, and never leave her alone with her.
Whenever we have tummy time with the baby, my dog is trying to nudge my hand away. I try to include her. and invite her to lay down with us while I pet her while holding a hand on the baby but if I stop to help the baby roll over, she gets right in front of my face to try to block her out.
She has also started barking excessively, she always barked before (it was a problem we were really working on before the baby came) but now it's like to the extreme. As soon husband or I get the baby down for a nap, she starts (softly) barking or whining at the door where she's sleeping.
She goes on walks with us, and we give her treats when she's good, and try to make her feel special still but I don't know what to do. I find myself getting more and more frustrated with her, and then yelling at her. Then I feel bad because this is a hard adjustment for all of us and I know she just needs more love, but I'm exhausted. I know she LOVES the baby, but this jealousy seems to be getting worse and worse!
Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do? Help please!
