Hello. I don’t post much at all, but I am in a stressful situation and I have no idea who to turn to.
My girlfriend recently moved halfway across the US out of risk of becoming homeless and has been working her butt off to get a new job and work towards her independence. Unfortunately, she had to leave her two cats behind where she moved from, letting them stay with a family member who already owned pets under the agreement that she would come back to pick them up within 3 months. The family member, however, tends to be a little unstable and, after two weeks of care, cut the time down to just 1 more month. In her dramatic way, the family member expressed that at the end of the time period she will just kill them, give them to somebody or let them be strays. The pictures we have been sent of the cats so far showed them missing huge patches of fur, and looking particularly thin.
We have been trying to put together a game plan to get the cats out in such a short time period, but my girlfriend is currently going through the hiring process with a company and has yet to receive a paycheck, leading to even more stress.
Does anybody here have ideas or recommendations for how to deal with this unfortunate circumstance? We are hoping the time limit might be extended through negotiation, but we want the cats out of that household as soon as possible.
Thank you for you consideration!
