My cat (calico female 5-6 years old) has been having problems the last 3-4 months with her right ear. She's both an inside outside cat and each month I give her a flea treatment on the neck.
However, it's not a constant issue, because for a couple days it will be lopsided, she'll scratch it a lot, and she'll shake her head. Then it will be fine again with no problems for the next 1-3 weeks or so without showing any of those prior signs I mentioned. This keeps repeating. Even though it repeats 1-2 times a month, it doesn't seem to be caused by the flea treatments.
I've looked in her ear with a light and see no signs of ear mites, nor any red inflamed areas that indicated any sort of infection. No visible scratches, pus or sores either.
This only lasts for a couple days before the symptoms disappear for a while so anytime im about to get a vet appointment it stops and I'm afraid it would just be a wasted visit if the vet doesn't find anything. I don't have money lying around so I need to actually know what I'm looking for so that I can actually tell the vet and they're able to find it without any trouble. Or at least treat it myself if I'm able to.
I've been trying to search the internet on what it could be but mostly see things about ear mites and infections, which again I don't see any signs of (and I'm pretty sure would be more constant).
Any ideas on what it could be?
