I know dogs are the typical trucker pet, but I'm just not really a dog person. I love cats but I'd be too scared of it escaping in a strange place and of it not being able to get enough exercise in the cab. I've been looking into something like a lizard or a rodent, but I can't find many resources for information on living conditions. Basically I'm looking for some suggestions on a pet thats small, slow (or can be kept in a small cage the majority of the time), somewhat low maintenance (i.e. just needs food, water and poop cleaned up periodically) and can handle the noise and bouncing of driving 500 miles a day and switching from the house to the truck as I do.
I hope you guys have some ideas because I'm stumped. Maybe I should just get a plant.
