My girlfriend and I adopted a cat a couple of months ago. She shows no interest in playing with us, approaching us, or even being near us. She doesn’t scratch, bite, or hiss. She just seems constantly paralyzed by fear when we are around. At night we hear her playing with toys and it seems like she is doing normal cat things. However, the second we come home or enter the room, she hides in one spot and does not move for anything. She does not roam around the apartment while we are awake. Only comes out to eat some food then immediately back to hiding. We can’t lure her out with treats or play. We try to play with her and are trying to take away any low to the ground hiding spots and set up perches. We can’t get her to realize these places exist. What else should we be doing? Is there any hope? I’m starting to think she is feral and not just shy.
