I recently adopted a cat from a woman who had five cats (including the girl I took) and a dog. The cat was a stray and probably feral. beforehand. The woman I got her from got her used to people somewhat, but I think she also scared her into submission. When I went to get the cat, Raleigh, she wouldn’t even come to the owner.
Now, at my apartment, it has been a little over 48 hours and she has come out of the bathroom where she was hiding, to my room under the bed for a day, to the rest of the apartment. She allows my other cat to sit with her, and is comfortable enough to sleep and eat with me, my roomate, and the other cat. However, my Chihuahua terrorizes her.
To him, he is excited and wants to play. Our other cat allowed him to approach and immediately started playing and now the two roll around in the floor and wrestle (they are the same size lol). Raleigh hisses at him and it sets my Chi off and this morning he started chasing her and bark/screaming at her. I removed him and then checked on her after. She was sitting in the window rather than hiding and she allowed me to pet her briefly.
I just need some advice moving forward so that I don’t break any trust with Raleigh and so that she can feel comfortable around both her new humans and pet friends. I am aware that this means my Chihuahua’s behavior probably needs to be addressed in this situation as well. Any advice on both accounts is welcome!
TL;DRMy new cat came from a sketchy situation and my Chihuahua terrifies her. I need help moving forward to create a comfortable and peaceful household.
