Does elephants grow big in small spaces?

Iam planning on buying a Pet elephant, got a guy who could sell me one.

I live in third floor in an appartment so might be a problem if it grow big. But I know sharks adapt to The space They live in, small aquarium small shark, put shark in big aquarium and it grow bigger.

Does elephants behave same way?
