Putting down my best friend of 15 years tomorrow, need some advice.

Tomorrow is the day we put our family dog of 15 years down. I've had him since I was 9 years old and I'm having a hard time even imagining life without him. When I was in college I lost several members of family from both sides, both young and old, and thought that I would be more emotionally prepared for this inevitable moment. Even in college I was always trying to mentally prepare myself for getting a phone call from my parents telling me that our boy has passed or will need to be put down, but I'm still not doing OK even after being able to be back with him.

What have you guys done to help with the passing of your pet? In my experience with losing people close to me staying busy with hobbies or other things I enjoy has helped. I'll be taking a few days off work too because I don't think I'll be able to hold it together.
