A couple of months ago I gave my brother my old couch and we had the door open for a while. My cat left and we couldn't go find it, he had been mostly an indoor cat going outside every now and then for around 30 mins and then coming back inside. We left food and water or for him but it rained for a couple of days after he had left so maybe that drive him further away, after a week of searching we stopped looking and prayed for the best.
A few days ago he showed back up out of nowhere. We were happy but he looks skinnier than he did and dirty. We didn't want to force him to be inside again after being in such an open place for so long. So we left food and water outside for him and he's Ben warming back up to us. He came inside recently but he did his business on the floor a couple of times. I was frustrated but I understood that he might have forgotten where the litter box was and how to use it. Plus he's not eating as much. What tips do you have to offer to help him get used to us, the house and the litter box, again? Thank y'all so much!
tldr: Cat has been gone for a couple of months and has been doing his business on the floor. Looking for tips on how to get him used to the house again! Thank y'all so much!
