My cat gets the zoomies almost every morning (really early morning, around 4-5 a.m.). She starts running around like crazy, playing with the rug in my room and jumping. She sometimes jumps to my bed and bites my feet which are under the sheets. She acts as if there was a toy or a mouse hiding under the sheets, but I'm not sure if she realizes it is actually my feet. It doesn't hurt a lot, but it is not pleasant and it scares me a bit. The times she's done it I either stay very still and try to ignore her or I move my feet away (sit with my feet under my legs) if it hurts. I try not to pay her much attention (petting, talking to her, playing...) so that she does not associate this behavior with good things.
She is 1.5 years old. I play with her every day, at least three times a day. I use interactive toys such as feather poles and pom-poms with a string and she loves it. We always play in the morning, afternoon and evening. The longest play session is in the evening, we play until she loses interest (usually 15-20 min), and then I feed her (around 8:30 p.m.). I go to bed around 10:30 p.m. and she usually sleeps with me until around 4-5 a.m., when this behavior starts. She is otherwise well-behaved and affectionate, it is only in the early morning that she does this kind of thing. I think she may have a ton of energy, as she mostly sleeps all day while I am at work and, even though we play in the afternoon and evening, she's already recovered all her energy by 4-5 a.m.
Does anyone else's cat do this? Is it something to worry about? Do you have any advice to avoid it, especially the biting?
I'd really appreciate some insight, as I am quite worried. Thanks a lot :)
