Our family has a poop problem with this dog

We don't know why but for the past 3 days he has been pooping sometime between 12:00 am and 6:00 am. He has never done this before, and my dad is thinking about returning him back to the humane society, because he always poops on the carpet, so every morning we have to pick it up with a poop bag and scrape whatever was left with a shirt we no longer use, and we're running out of those. We live in an apartment so that means he can't go outside and poop because we also live on a third floor. We need help because we don't want to send him back
