Inside vegetarian non-captive pet

So Im looking for a company pet and Im gonna be really picky about it... I live in an apartment so I dont have a backyard but I dont want to keep an animal locked in a cage... Also Im vegetarian so I wont get a carnivorous pet. Any ideias? Thx in advance
