She's always been very enthusiastic about her time in the litter box and has a habit of digging around in there like it's a toy. A month or two ago I replaced the two pans with brand new ones, they're about the same size as the old ones- maybe an inch or so smaller, and the walls are slightly lower so her elderly brother can get in and out easier. I know we should have a third box but I just don't have the room for it, so I am extra vigilant about cleaning them to make up for that.
I cleaned the boxes and put a new mat in front of them earlier today and there's a mound of litter on it. I managed to catch her in the act and she was actually pulling the litter out and dumping it on the floor. Does she just not like the new mat?? Maybe it smells weird? She's still using the boxes as she should and I can pour the litter back in easily, but I am at a loss and want to know if anybody else has ever seen a cat do this.
