My husband and I are doing a foster-to-adopt trial with a bonded pair of 3 month old kittens. We've had them for about a week and a half. We're calling them Jack and Howie. Howie is a little love bug who loves pets and cuddles. Jack, on the other hand, seems to want nothing to do with us.
He stopped hiding after a few days, but he still absolutely hates being approached or touched. The only time I can pet him is when he is in a deep sleep or when he's eating--and even then he'll sometimes flinch away or hiss when I start. He comes out to play, no problem, and gets close to us, but any attempt to touch him sends him hiding. He'll eat treats from my hand, but then backs away with his snack quickly.
I've been lying on the floor and using the slow-blink method to get him to accept pets when he's sleepy, but he's not really warming up. I'm worried it isn't going to happen. I do realize it's only been a short time, but he's so wary of us that I'm worried this is a permanent trait for him. Any tips?
