So, my normally very spunky and energetic 2 year old cat took a weird turn last Friday. I first noticed something was up when she wasn't coming to sleep with me at night like she usually does. I then noticed that she was sleeping ALL DAY, and hiding out in dark places. Then, she stopped eating (this only lasted about a day - she's coming out of hiding twice a day to eat now). The next weird thing that started happening is she's growling/crying a bit occasionally when I pet her.
So obviously, I took her to the vet - she wouldn't let anyone touch her. She has a history of anxiety and lashing out when she's afraid, but never this bad. The vets had welders gloves on and wrapped her in a towel and still couldn't carry out the exam. So, the vet sent us on our way, saying she's probably just fighting off an infection. Okay, whatever. I went back in yesterday to tell them she's still acting the same, but they said not to bring her back unless she gets noticeably worse. Sent me home with metacam for possible pain and told me not to worry too much. But I AM worrying. Shes a bit more active today, but I just tried to pet her and she growled and hissed at me. I'm so worried about her. She's obviously in pain.
Has anyone dealt with anything like this? Should I be taking her back to the vet, even though they say she's fine? Is she just grouchy because she's feeling under the weather? Am I just being paranoid? Any info or advice would be super appreciated.
TL;DR: cat acting weird for a week; sleeping all day, hiding, not eating as much as usual, growling/crying/hissing when I pet her. Vet says she's fine, but I'm concerned. Help please!
