Backstory: A buddy who’s dog has a growth needed to be removed. After a microscopic investigation, no normal cells were found in that culture. The procedure to get it removed is ~$700. There is no assurance that it’s the final solution because only then will the biopsy . A biopsy is included in the cost and only then will he know if it’s benign, malignant, metastasized, etc.
On one side, I sympathize that since his first dog, a 6 month old, and it could be the first and last procedure. On the other, I view pets as animals and will treat them as so. I go with the mentality that if it’s not bothering them, why mess with it. If it’s causing severe discomfort, then I would reassess. If the growth turns out to re-emerge, then I would feel like the original procedure was a waste.
What would be the tipping scale for your pets vet procedures? How would you advise this person to proceed?
