The cruel world of ferret mills.

YSK about this especially if you are considering getting a ferret.

There are four main ferret farms - Marshalls, Triple F Farms, Path Valley, and Real Canadian Ferrets.

Ferret farms are all known for using puppy mill practices, but the most guilty are Marshall’s and Triple F.

In Pennsylvania, Triple F farms, sells to chain pet stores like Petland. Investigators found ferrets with bloody rectal prolapses, gaping wounds, herniated organs, ruptured and bleeding eyes, infected feet, and inflamed, swollen mammary glands at ferret mills. They found dull needles, dull blades, ferrets would cry out because the anesthesia wasn’t properly administered. Employees were instructed to ignore sick or hurt ferrets, leaving them to die. Ferrets were thrown in the trash. No love at all. And what happened? Peta did get them charged but triple f paid it off. 16,000$ and another 28,000$ to settle it. I can link the undercover video but its too disturbing. If you really want to see it you can google it for yourselves.

Since they are breeded so much there is a massive problem with incest. The life expectancy is going down. They are prone to many diseases, like cancer. I had a ferret pass away at only 3 1/2 (they usually live till 6-8) from that. RIP haku. Miss you buddy.

They spay/neuter them too early, causing adrenal disease. An overload of hormones. They get hyperplasia, tumors - cancerous & benign from this. They lose all the fur on their back and get weak/lethargic.

here is a quote from a marshall breeding representative describing their breeding practices - “We will breed anything a lab wants. If they want a dog with 3 legs or an abnormally large heart, we can do it.”

Petco exclusively sells Marshall’s Ferrets and all their products. Marshalls has been accused of the same accusations as Triple F farms was. Inbreeding, mistreatment, horrible conditions, botched spaying.

All of these companies either use the leftover ferrets as food for other animals, kill them, or sell them to animal testing facilities. So do pet stores. Im sure everyone by now knows how horrible pet stores are.

I remember when i went to a ferret shelter to ask to volunteer/donate and they showed me the ferrets that were not mill ferrets, it was shocking. They were chubby, fluffy, shiny, bigger, and so much healthier looking. They didn’t need to point them out, it was blatantly obvious. And of course none of them had the awful ear tattoos farms use to say if they are neutered / stink sacs removed.

This is a heavy post and i want to explain what motivated me to make it besides loving animals - I made this post because i see more and more viral videos of ferrets online. No one should get a pet just because they’re cute/funny, but if you or someone you know are legitimately looking to get one of these cuties and love them properly i wanted to make sure you knew what to avoid. There are plenty of ferrets up for adoption at ferret rescue centers all over!

Always make sure you do your research before adopting one, some people dont expect ferrets to be as much work as they are. As like with lots of pets. But i have to say it because cute internet videos make people impulsive.

The only cage that should be used for a ferret is a Ferret Nation Cage. They dont sell them at Pet stores, ive only found them on amazon. But they are the most humane option and easiest to clean. Good for their spines, plus you can put tons of toys/hammocks, even tubes/dig boxes fit in there.

Consider putting your ferret on a raw diet or at least getting a food brand with the most protein! Never give your ferrets Zumpreem, known for having vegetables in it and costing 1000’s in surgery. I paid $2900 for Dexter’s surgery after he somehow ate peas and had crystals in his urethra.

Thats my PSA, thanks for taking the time to read it. Sorry if its a little jumbled up, i suck at writing.
