First time making a serious post like this . My situation is that I moved in with my bf who lives with his folks , they weren’t charging him rent so he could save money but they make him pay for other stuff to where that is moot. Anyway, I move in under the pretext that all of us together are going to clean up their rather messy house ( his parents are hoarders so I can understand to be sensitive and supportive while also helping them get over this issue ). His parents unfortunately also hoard animals . They have 4 dogs in total , only one is allowed inside the house at night so the other three get to freeze . They also have 4 cats same thing as before only one gets to stay indoors while the others fend for themselves . Because my bf’s father lets his dog go outside all day ,because he is too busy getting high in his room to walk his dog or give him any other form of exercise , his dog brings in fleas from the outdoor dogs. I moved in and have one cat who is an indoor cat . I have only encountered one time before where I have had to deal with fleas and it was quickly remedied . Ever since I moved in (October 2019) I’ve had to give my cat flea meds every month . When I give her the meds she is kinda out of it for a month , I think she hates having the oily stuff on her fur and skin where she can’t clean . His parents assured me it was because of the cold season and they get fleas bad this time of year ect. I let it slide but since this has been something I’ve had to stress over for the last 3 months it’s finally came to a boiling point. 2 days ago I noticed fleas on my cat and I gave her medicine 2.5 weeks ago , a few days after administering the meds I noticed she stopped scratching as much and then proceeded with other care . I told my bf’s dad about it and he suggested he bug bomb the house again but they don’t vacuum the carpets . He then told me to buy more expensive stuff but I pointed out that since his dog brings in hitch hiker fleas from the dogs outside that that it wouldn’t fix the problem. My bf and I have offered to take the animals to a shelter but they refuse it. They don’t bathe the dogs , they don’t pick up after them or interact with them. They just sit out back and bark. One of the dogs is normal , another is an old chihuahua who is deaf and blind so all she does it bark and the third was born with some kind of deformity. It looks like half it’s chest is caved in and it sounds like it is struggling to breath and ever since I met this poor creature I felt so bad for it . The fourth one ( the one that gets let inside) is pretty normal for a dog, typical bratty dog stuff, tries to eat the cats food and occasionally goes litter box diving . In the hellscape that is their back yard they also have two ducks my bf’s father just took from the marina to keep slugs off his weed he grows . When their not doing that they are kept in an incredibly small cage where they can’t really do much but huddle together . They can’t stand fully up or stretch their wings. The outdoor cats are all pretty friendly with me , two of them walk me to my car every day . I think it’s because I’m the only one that consistently feeds them or gives them food. I want to report them for animal neglect but I’m worried they will automatically assume it’s me because I’m the only one who’s “caused a stink” about it .
TLDR my bf’s parents are animals hoarders and it’s now causing my cat to suffering .help
