Full disclosure this is actually my roommates cat. I like to think of us as co-parents but he’s been her family cat for years before living with us. We take turns feeding and caring for him. I grew up around cats when I was little but my father hates them so was never allowed to have one. So I am very inexperienced with feline companions.
Oliver is a sweet cat. He is ~8 and is the friendliest boy. He mainly lives in mine and my roommate’s shared room but has the common area to also explore. During the day he does his own thing and will come to you if he wants attention but that’s not too often. He doesn’t mind being bothered but if you scoop him up to go cuddle elsewhere he will likely leave immediately. Generally basic cat behavior I think.
At night it’s a whole different story. He periodically wakes us up. Walks around our heads, shoves his face into yours, kneads you, licks your face until the end goal of waking us up. As I am writing this lying in bed his face is shoved into my phone. Every hour or so he does this. He is a very food oriented man and I usually feed him around 8 and he KNOWS this yet still wakes me up at 4 then 6 then 7 then 8. Maybe once more after he’s fed for good measure.
How do I stop this and why does it happen. Is this a usual cat thing? I am a sleep oriented human and would really love to get a full nights sleep.
