How hard would it be for an outdoor car to become an indoor cat?

EDIT: Yes there is a typo in the title. I know this, someone has already pointed it out and I can't fix it. If you don't have advice about my cat then please please just scroll past.

When I was living with my parents, we had 2 cats. One is 18, and one Is 8. The 8 year old has put on a lot of weight since i moved out a year ago, and my dad doesn't seem to care. Mum wants to help him but dad insists he's fine and just keeps feeding him when he wants more (which is a lot. He's got no known health problems other than a murmur, just a greedy little sod). It's really upsetting me seeing him like this, and I've said if my dad keeps trying to kill him, I'll take him and have him with me, but he'd have to be indoors because of where we live. Only other thing is, I have a 1 year old cat where I am now, and the 8 year old is known for being antagonistic, so I'm not sure how he'd get on with her.

The ideal situation here would be for my dad to start giving a f**k about the cat's health and restrict his food, but if he isn't willing, I'll be looking into having him come and live with me over an hour away.

How hard would it be? I don't want to make the 8YO or 1YO miserable at all, but I also don't want my boy to die early from weight issues.
