Two Torties and A Big Problem.

So recently I came into possession of a stray tortoise shell cat. We aren't entirely sure what happened to her or what her current situation is, but when we got ahold of her she was nearly skin and bone (starving to death). My Mother walked over to her to see if she was okay (she was attracted by her very loud meowing) and upon reaching out she practically leaped into her arms. She's very affectionate and clearly was properly socialized with other cats. We have named her Lilly and are doing our best to give her a good home.

My other tortoise shell I have had for a while now, and she has always been kind of a loner. When I got her she had a healed over broken tail (meaning it healed before she was put in the shelter) and she was extremely skiddish and scared of feet. I shouldn't need to elaborate on what we think happened to her. She is also very small for her age, so we believe she was the runt and was bullied as a kitten, hence why the following is a problem;

After introducing Sunflower and Lilly to each other, exactly what you'd expect happened. Hissing, growling, spitting etc. We let them go their separate ways and figured they would get better with time. Well a few days go by and, nothing. In fact its gotten worse, and that's partially me and my SO's fault. It was looking like it was getting better at one point but then they almost got into a fight, so we disciplined them. Now we believe we have made a grave mistake and driven a wedge between them and want to do whatever we can to help remedy the situation.

We love Sunflower so much, and we've grown very attached to Lilly. She clearly loves us too, but for her safely and our peace of mind we have removed her from the general area for the time being and its really taking a toll on my SO and I. Both cats are stressed and depressed after the encounter and we aren't sure what to do now. We want them to get along, so when I finally move out of my mom's Sunflower has a "little sister" to look after her and vis versa, but at this rate it doesn't look like its too likely a possibly. If anyone has any advice at all I am willing to try anything. I just want my fur babies to get along.
