So 1 month ago we adopted a 6 month old male kitten, he was super cute and loving and became very attached to us, so we decided to adopt his sister from the same litter so they could give each other company. They grew up together and were raised by their mom, they were totally bff.
Anyways, they apparently forgot each other because when we brought the second cat last Sunday, the male was hissing and kind of upset, so the female got really stressed. We realised that we needed to do a proper introduction of the cats since they could remember their littermate days.
So we have been working a lot on reintroducing the cats properly: separate rooms, feeding on opposite sides of the door, room swapping, etc. It worked great in the way that they seem to be used to each other, they don't get upset and the new one is also more used to the house.
HOWEVER the Male cat is incredibly annoying with the female cat. She seems that she wants to explore and play calmly but the male is annoying her all the time, to the point that she hides from him in all the corners of the house. He chases her across the house, pounces at her from the back, bites her and also smells her butt a lot. Therefore we still have to lock them (mostly the female) in separate rooms which breaks our heart because they cry a lot when they get locked.
We will spay and neuter them in 2 weeks because they first need to get vaccines and stuff, but we were wondering if there is anything else we can do to make the male become less annoying? I try to supervise them when I am home and I spray the male with water when he is too annoying, and sometimes I give them timeouts in separate rooms. But I can only do this when I am home which is like 4 hours per day, so most of the day I have to leave them in separate rooms.
