I need advice, I have three dogs who have all been with me a around a decade.
Alpha is a 80lbs, 11yo-ish lab mix and in the dog park can take down anyone who cares test him, so a good fighter for lack of a better term. Generally very laid back but when his line is crossed he is ready to go.
Beta is a 60lbs, 11-12yo-ish terrier mix, very fast and generally has been able to hold his own quite well, but is aging the most, but very healthy.
Zulu is a 65lbs, 9yo hound mix. Completely non aggressive. Will vocally defend treats or food but will run away or hide behind me sooner then anything.
Alpha seems to be getting more aggressive with Beta, I expect the odd tiff and cut or scratch, but it is getting out of hand. Today I came home to blood everywhere, Beta has a 2 inch tear in his ear, a golf ball sized wound on his chest and a dozen puncture wounds or more on his legs. Not a scratch on Alpha or Zulu. This is by far the worst attack, before has had a severe puncture wound (once on chest and once on hind quarter), a puncture to his ear or a couple punctures to his legs. These attacks have all been spread out over a year or two, individually, never concerned me much, but this is the second time since Thanksgiving...
There is also questions that Alpha might have injured my 2yo niece last year. Her injury could not specifically be attributed to Alpha as she could also have fallen and gotten the same laceration, but it could also have been a K9 tooth that caused it (my Vet's opinion from pics). Alpha was seen sleeping in the room moments before she started screaming, but she was in a wild monkey phase and no one witnessed it. Alpha has never shown agression to children before, he has always been the dog kids could climb on and play with. So when the Doctor said it was likely a fall, my family accepted it. However I have never been so sure as the attacks on Beta have piled up.
I feel sick to my stomach and need advice, do I kennel Alpha whenever I am not home? I do not really have any way to isolate him other then kennel. Try a Muzzle? Do I rehome him? Is there anything I can do to? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
