My mom and I live in a one bedroom condo and decided to adopt a kitten from the shelter a little over six months ago. Our cat’s name is Mama, and if I had to guess, I’d say she’s almost nine months old now.
I have no idea about her background or how she was “brought up”, all we know is that she was brought in by a Good Samaritan when she was a kitten. Stray, maybe?
Anyways, she is clingy as hell. All she does is wreck things by scratching and tearing. You can’t even have private time in your room because she’ll literally tear the carpet out from under the door and cry until you let her in. She always needs company or else she’ll go crazy. What’s most annoying is that she’ll sleep with one of us, get up at early hours and cry and scratch the bed/play with stuff on our dressers until we pay attention to her.
She has plenty of toys and I try to make time to entertain her, but my mom and I are fairly busy with work and school and our personal lives. Sometimes we’d like to just shut the door and have quiet time without the cat, but with her, it’s not possible. We’ve had multiple cats before and they have never acted in this way, they’ve always been fairly independent.
My mom thought about declawing her to prevent her from ruining our stuff, but that’s a route I’d rather avoid. I’ve also brought up getting her a buddy, but my mom says it would be too much work to maintain the litter box. We have to clean it so often as it is. The thing is, I’m seen people have a cat in small places like this and they don’t seem to have this problem?
We love her very much and would rather not give her away, so is there any advice we should take?
