Cat regularly goes under covers

Hi everyone! I have a very sweet male cat, about 3 years old.

He has always loved to sit on my bed, even if I'm not in it. This is fine, but I recently got a pretty heavy comforter/quilt and I have noticed that if I leave him in my room for a while he will burrow underneath.

I am worried he might suffocate if he continues to do this, but I am pretty sure that he would be able to get out as soon as he would realize the lack of air.

Should I be worried?
