How to shift an outdoor living cat?

We live in a rented house and adopted our cat almost a 2 years ago, a month old kitten. We kept it inside our house for about two months then got a special cage made for it outside because

1) my mother is terrified of cats, but she allowed my brother to adopt one. 2) he is a very active guy, he was suffocating inside.

Oh and we only left the cat outside in his house at night, in the morning i took him back to my room.

Anyway, soon enough we allowed it to roam outside and realized he won't be leaving, he considered our and the four houses around including the people living there his home. We sold the cage and now he has been a free spirit for almost 1.5 years, but he stays and is a happy kitty

The problem is that we are shifting in two days and I'm worried sick how the little dude is going to settle outdoors over there because once we left our brother and the cat at our cousins and he was constantly running around the entire neighborhood, panicking and screaming.

I know that one of the options is to keep the dude indoors at the new place for a while, but he's half wild now and my mother won't be comfortable. Any suggestions on what could be done?
