Really need help with my cat’s recent litter box behaviour!

Hey everyone. I’m having some troubles with my cat and I could really use some help with this. It’s a bit lengthy so please bear with me. Here’s quick points for those who don’t want to read too much.

  • In a nutshell, my cats been pooing outside of his litter box every now and then. Now it’s become a problem for the household. He’s a year and a half. He’s really well trained and playful. He is fixed.
  • Multiple vets have checked and say he’s perfectly healthy.
  • His environment has been stable and suitable. There’s not been any disturbances or changes in the house that could make him uncomfortable.
  • There are no other cats inside the house but he does mingle and play with the strays around our house.
  • We’ve changed his diet.
  • He is still peeing inside the litter box.
  • His stool is perfectly normal.
  • I have changed his litter box and gotten a much larger one for him so it’s not the size of the box.

Full story:

He started this back in January and we noticed that he was a little constipated. I took him to the vet and we got the necessary medication and changed his diet to make it easier for him. A week or so after, we noticed that not much had changed in terms of his litter box problem but his constipation was gone. His stool was totally normal.

After that we changed his diet completely and moved him off biscuits entirely and on to homemade boiled meat and veggie mixes (tried and tested recipes). We give him wet food along with that to ensure he’s getting all the nutrients he needs if we happen to miss anything. I am not using cheap food or ingredients, in case that’s something you wondered.

Although he loved his new diet and his new eating schedule, the problem persisted so I took him to the vet again. The vet told me he was perfectly fine and that it’s something that would just stop. I wasn’t satisfied so I took him to another vet who is much more experienced and whose word I trust more as well. After a thorough look, the vet told me that my cat is a picture of good health.

I wondered what else it could be so I got him a new litter box - one that was larger in size (maybe his old one had gotten too small?) and he seemed to like it instantly.

Eventually, with a new diet and a new litter box, he started going in the litter box again but its been inconsistent.

I could really use some help right now in trying to understand what’s going on with him. All help is welcome and appreciated, thanks!!
