I just had my 5 year old cat spayed a few days ago because she had pyometra. I was lucky enough that she didn't have it so bad that I was able to control it with antibiotics and prepare her to be stable enough for surgery. If I had known my cat was going to get sick, I would have preferred to have her spayed when she was younger instead of waiting until she got the infection. she has literally never set foot outside, I figured she would never get sick. that was stupid on my part, but I was ignorant. I didn't know. I have never seen a cat so miserable in my entire life. don't let your pets go through that.
anyone who tells you it's rare or doesn't happen very often is retarded. it's not a coincidence that I just happen to have it happen to my cat. you wouldn't believe how common this shit is. my sister had a dog that died with a full litter in her ovaries because of the same thing. whatever google tells you when you look up 'chances of pyometra' is bullshit. if you don't give a fuck about your females, then whatever, don't spay them.
