I moved out of my parents house across the country one month ago and made the decision to not take my cat with me. I got him as a birthday present when I was 14 and am 25 now, so it's been 11 years of me and this cat having a really wonderful, special bond. However being a kid when I got him and living with my parents who helped take care of him and also love him, I thought the stress of driving him across country as well as moving him into a strange new place with 2 unfamiliar people and another cat would be too much. He does not like strangers at all and is scared of anyone who is not my immediate family and I don't know how he'd react to another cat. My plan was to move him out here in 6 months to a year when I plan on having my own place with no roommates or other animals, but given his age I'm still worried it will be too much change for him. Did I do the right thing by not taking him? Will he be okay if I bring him eventually when there's no other strangers? I just miss him so much.
