Will my cat be fine being alone?

I live alone in a 2 bedroom apartment. I’ve been thinking about getting an older, more calm cat and want to keep it as an indoor cat.

I work 8 hours a day and I am mostly home on the evenings (I’m a homebody) but sometimes I also visit friends a few hours or go away for a day in the weekend.

I will play with it and stimulate it mentally as well and give it lots of love and attention when I am home

However I fear it will still get lonely and I don’t want that .. what’s your experience?
