cat hissing and growling at nothing

I have 3 male cats who are very calm and they all get along. Two of them are a little anxious, like when new people come around, but nothing that has us too worried. Anyways, one of the more anxious cats is about two years old and has been hissing at nothing the past couple of days. We thought maybe he just sees a fly or he hears something we cant hear and its aggravating him. But, its been a few days and it hasn't stopped. Tonight he had a bad episode of him growling and hissing and backing up and there was nothing there. My other two cats were acting completely normal, like they hadn't noticed anything. They seemed worried about him though and were checking on him, sniffing him. I'm pretty sure there's something going on internally, maybe he's in pain? I cant tell whats going on though. Has anybody else gone through something similar? He also has had a tapeworm in the past, but we took him to the vet and got him medicine and cleared up. They have a small flea problem and we give them medicine fairly often. We haven't for the past two months, but started it again today. He's also the only one we really notice it with. He's the only one that gets itchy and he scratches and bites at himself, pulling his fur out.
