cat pinning my kitten down just trying to play with a toy

i have a 5-month cat and another who is 3 months. both male. they have been together for two months (the baby was abandoned and i took him under my wing). they do really well together. they play, groom, and take naps together frequently.

i was just playing with the baby when the 5-month cat let out a meow and got on top of the baby grabbing his neck. the older one just held him there not doing anything else. it was like he wasn’t allowing him to play with the toy i was tossing around. the baby would try to get away but the older wouldn’t let him. he would hiss.

when he did get away, and i swung the toy around and the kitten was jumping around, the same thing would happen— the older cat would meow and grab his neck, pinning him against the floor.

i thought it was pretty interesting and a bit silly, since i’ve never seen this before.

no, they are not fighting or playing. does anyone know what this action means?
