My sweet 4 year old cat has started inappropriately urinating in my home. It started when I reached the third trimester of my pregnancy with her peeing on my side of the bed. My baby is now almost 5 weeks old, and we’re still dealing with the issue. The second I narrowed down which cat was peeing on the bed, I took her to the vet. I have done everything the vet has told me to do, and have run every test imaginable on my cat. I’ve spent well over $1,000 on vet bills, medications, litter boxes, and various calming resources for my home. Still, my cat is over grooming, attacking my other cats, peeing absolutely everywhere (including on me) and will not acknowledge my newborn child. Not to mention she started biting me. I’m worried she is going to start becoming aggressive with my baby. I’ve tried asking friends and family if they would take her, posted on every adoption site the humane society has recommended, called every rescue and shelter imaginable to surrender her, but no one wants her because of her behavioral issue. I have an appointment two weeks out to give her to the county shelter, but I fear they are going to just put her down. Would it be out of line to take her and euthanize her myself where she is with someone she knows and that loves her? Or should I give her the chance to maybe be put up for adoption? I’m desperate at this point and I have absolutely no idea what to do.
