I'm not sure if this belongs here but I saw no rules against it, so I'll post this here.
My cat (Stanley) is a nearly 10 yr old male who was a Tom cat nearly all his life before I adopted him. He LOOOOVES hunting, usually hunts mice and sometimes rats, but he never gets hurt. the thing I'm worried about is when he hunts snakes. He has only hunted 3 whip snakes before and he caught one today which freaked me out a bit. he is an outside cat, but that's only because 1. he's been an outside cat all his life, it's really hard to keep him in. 2. I live with my mother and brothers, one of which has full mutation fragile x, so he can't do basically anything let alone close a door behind him so it is nearly impossible to keep all doors closed.
So Stanley goes out in our yard, (in Australia, so there are plenty of snakes) and finds snakes. Usually whip snakes, and he's fluffy so he hasn't been bitten yet, but I'm worried one day he will find a brown snake or a breeding ball of whip snakes (like the cat across the road did, that cat died) and get seriously hurt or die.
so, I guess my question is,
is there any way to stop my cat from hunting snakes?
