Hi reddit, I adopted two kittens a few months ago as quarantine buddies. They're my first kittens ever and I am learning a lot about how to take care of them - I worry a lot! One of them... doesn't like to eat much. She's very thin and underweight for her age, she's like three and a half pounds, and my google searches generally tell me they should weight as much as how old they are until about a year. She poops and pees regularly, is incredibly energetic, loves to play and explore. She's just terribly thin and boney. Her brother is a healthy eater and always finishes his food no problem. He's around four and a half pounds. They're strictly indoor cats.
I feed them at the same time in different bowls, I watch them to make sure no one is pushing the other out of the way to eat or bullying the other. She just never finishes it! She will eat half if not less then wander off. Her brother won't toucher her food, he just cleans his bowl then wanders off. I've tried different brands, I feed them wet food in the morning then dry a few times through the day. No difference. I thought maybe worms at first, but they were both dewormed right before I brought them home, and wouldn't she be ravenous if she was wormy?
She had no interest in cat treats or any human food, like chicken shreds or little bits of beef. Her brother will eat pretty much anything. The *one* thing she likes is little bits of cheese. I realize dairy isn't healthy for kittens so they get a few shreds maybe once or twice a week. I can feel her bones when I pet her. She seems happy and healthy but she's growing! Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get her to eat more? Is this normal? Am I worrying too much? Thank you!
