My friend begged me to watch her dogs so she could go out of state. I did not want to watch them, but she had no one else and I'm one of her only friends. The dogs were stressing me out and destroying my house (one peed in my floor vent, chewed on walls, just bad dogs) so my mom suggested I bring them to her house (got permission) to play in her yard (I don't have one).
Anyway, 1 dog got hurt while rough housing the other and broke his arm. I was talking to my mom and didn't see what happened but ran to his cry. I took him to the hospital with her vet information (it was after hours on a Saturday). She denied services as far as x-rays and made me take him home with pain meds only. Her plan was to take him to her vet 2 days later when she returned to save money. I paid the bill.
The next day I took him to her vets hospital and they did x-rays but she again made me take them home because she didn't want to pay boarding when there was boarding next door. They could watch him closely with medical care, but she wanted me to. I catered to him, gave him his meds, and slept by his side. She returned and I explained and things seemed OK. Monday came and she took him in for surgery and went nuts on me. I paid her $1K never seeing any bill. She's now asking for $2,500K and home insurance. My state sees dogs as property and I've paid well over what she paid and the value for him.
Can she sue me and what are the chances of her being successful? I've done everything I can and we are no longer friends. She's harassing me, but has a warrant/probation I think. If she comes over I'm calling the cops.
I also wanted to add she's now blaming me for an enlarged heart and fluid in his lungs. That sounds like an underlying issue or straight up lie. You don't get that from breaking an arm.
Thanks for all help and advice.
