My dog is a little over 2 years old and is having to go through treatment for heat worms. Right no we're in the beginning stages of treatment and have her on an antibiotic and Trazadone to keep her calm.
For those of you who have been though the heatworm process, you might know how difficult it is to keep your dog calm and our dog is certainly crazy. However, she doesn't like taking her medicine to keep her calm. It's getting very hard for us and at time we've had to literally grab her mouth and shove her pull plus whatever food it's in into her mouth. Which is very bad because fighting with her increases her heart rate which could kill her if it spikes too much.
We have tried peanut butter, crushing the pill, dog specific pills pockets, cream cheese, and just about every other food you can think of. She's too smart for her own good and doesn't like being sedated like her Trazadone makes her and she refuses to take her medicine. She'll even puke it back up on occasions we can have to push it into her mouth. She acts like she's being abused but we're literally just trying to save her life and it's a daily struggle at this point.
If anyone has any advice of what we can do to make this easier I'm open to any and all suggestion. She'll need to continue to take her calming medicine for 4-6 months even after the treatment so this can't continue like this.
