I'm 26 and moving to a new apartment next year. I will be living alone and I was thinking of getting a pet to keep me company. The apartment allows pets.
I used to have pet dogs as a child but honestly my family wasn't great with animals and a lot of those pets ended up getting run over by cars or escaping from our house and stolen. We normally had toy dogs as I grew up so they were easily stolen where I lived. So I definitely know having a dog is a huge responsibility but I think I am ready now.
Anyway, my job is pretty stressful,I leave the house around 6 in the morning and I don't get home until around 7 at night. During those hours I literally have no one at the apartment to take care of the dog. I was wondering if it was possible for dogs to be alone for such long hours. I'm not sure because my mother was a stay at home parent when I was growing up so there was always someone around but it's not like that now.
My sister suggested getting a cat but I don't really like cats so if I can't get a dog I was wondering if there is any other alternative like a pet that doesn't require so much care.
I was thinking of getting a small aquarium of fish or an ant farm instead but tbh I really want a dog but I just don't want to be an irresponsible pet owner.
