TIPS for beginner cat owners!

I just adopted a cat but this is the stuff working best for me that I found out through just trying stuff out.

  1. When you bring the cat home, close doors you don’t want it to go into such as certain bedrooms or offices etc. then let the cat roam. They’ll probably do this for the first week just to get a good feel of your house, especially if it’s big.

  2. Sometimes cats won’t eat a lot on their first days at your house. However, a trick I found out is that if you guide them to their bowl with a treat, they’ll eat. At least mine did anyway.

  3. If they’re not sleeping in their bed and prefer other places, like YOUR bed, it could just be that they like the texture of your blanket. I put my blanket in my cats bed and now he’s asleep there!

  4. Cats like to be stimulated so if you can, get a fountain water bowl.

  5. Cats sometimes pick favorites and it could be because of your scent or how much time you spend with them.

  6. If they’re tail is up in the air, it means they’re being friendly right now.

  7. They love catnip.

  8. It may take a while for cats to actually use their litterbox but they will eventually find it and use it. Also, clean their box out every 2-3 days. If you clean it out every day, they will expect it to be clean before they use it.

  9. If they’re sneezing a lot it could be an upper respiratory infection (aka the cold), so take your kitty to the vet. It’s not life threatening or THAT serious.

  10. Lint rollers are your best friend! :))

Hope you enjoyed these tips! These are just things I’ve noticed and I am in no shape or form a cat expert.
