My poor furry best friend has recently started -running- away from her food. I expected to take her to the vets, get a tooth extracted and have my little love pain free. However, it's much more complicated than that.
She has a broken tooth, infected gums, some sort of viral infection on her eyes, is severely malnourished (half the weight she should be), is eating a lot, and drinking a lot. Her heart rate is also double the rate it should be, which means she can't be put under for an operation until this underlying problem is dealt with.
I feel horrible for letting her get into this state, but please understand that on the surface, she's so bright, cuddly and active. No mobility problems, no bowel problems. I was really ignorant about her weight, as she has a thick coat and I thought that she was just skinny because she was so old. =\
I'm living on £375 a month after rent, as I'm a full time uni student. The blood tests alone cost me £176. But my little cat's in pain. My head is all over the place and I don't know how to help her? I just want this stupid tooth dealt with ASAP, which alone will cost £300. I can save up for that, but it'll need time. =\
And then it occurs to me... My vet said there's still a risk anyway. I don't want her to die on the operating table instead of being with me. How big -is- this risk?
