We adopted two kittens last week. They weren't litter mates, but after the first two days in our home they've been playing non-stop, and it can get pretty wild at times.
Our stairs do this weird thing where there's a little 1 ft ledge on one side. Supervising the kittens all week, they seemed to realize that jumping from that ledge was too high, and they would just walk to where the ledge isn't 7ft high but only 6" or so - the top step. Well, this morning they were playing, and one was chasing the other, and all of a sudden the little guy being chased just jumped right off the ledge at the highest point - about 7 feet down to the bottom step. He landed on his feet but instantly froze up - I think out of fear.
I held him for a couple minutes, examining his legs - he did not meow at all, just stayed real quiet, and didn't seem to mind me touching his paws or legs -- then he hopped off my lap and walked away. He's been playing a little bit here and there, but definitely avoiding any rough play with our other cat (which until today was pretty much ALL they would do). He seems to be walking fine, ate his dinner, and mostly has been sleeping (which isn't too abnormal). But he's been much less playful it seems.
My husband thinks that he is just fine since he is exhibiting no signs of pain, but I am so worried about how quiet and despondent he is has been since his "big jump". Am I right to be worried? Should I call the vet?
