Hi all, I'm looking for some help from other magnificent pet owners. My hound has picked up a new fear that has never been present before, but I wanted to see if anyone had experience with this sort of thing before or had some good ideas for calming her through the new fear.
She's about 9-10 and I've had her since she was about a year and a half. She's always been a bit shy and lethargic inside, as most hounds are, and a nut while outside. She is hilariously stubborn and we love her for it. We've been trying to get her comfortable with hardwood floors her entire life, but even with regular grooming her digging claws and I guess her past has made it difficult, so we rock rugs and runners everywhere for her.
The new issue is coach whistles. We know she's afraid of the fire alarm, so we figured it could be something like that, but she isn't always afraid of coach whistles... she is only afraid when Alex Horne blows his whistle during Taskmaster....
We can watch full soccer games and other sports without a care in the world, but for some reason, every time Alex Horne blows his whistle she begins shivering and hides behind one of us.
I've never had a coaches whistle before, so maybe it's just a new sound, or maybe it's too similar to the fire alarm?
Has anyone run into a similar issue with their pet, and how did you help them get over or around the new anxiety?
