Best small pets to chill with?

looking for any species of small animals, preferably colourful, that would sit with me or just chill on my shoulder (not serious, unless....) Anything other than mammals will do. was thinking about geckos or frogs but looking for something that can be started up, bought and maintained for a relatively low fee
