I saved two cats from the pound this past week and I've never introduced two cats before, so I'm taking the advice of Jackson Galaxy and trying to do it gradually. They're both males, recently nuetered and likely young adults. The staff said they had met in holding and were fine back then, but here at home they are far from friends and I'm worrying sick about having to keep them cooped up.
We're keeping them in separate rooms right now and alternating who gets to be out with full roam of the house. We've got a Feliway, window perches, treats, toys etc but it still means that one cat is having to just be put away for 4-6 hours at a time. Their rooms have a litter box, toys, cat trees, chairs, blankets the works but they still meow pitifully when we leave. I can't be two places at once, I just also feel terrible for their possible boredom. Is there anything else I can do? I love them both dearly already and just want them to not fight. We've gotten to the eating on opposite sides of a baby gate without issue stage but once the food is gone, the hissing starts. We've only had one cat fight, caused by a sneaky infiltrator kitty but no one was hurt and we broke it up quickly.
