Hi everyone, I just bought a kitten after months of trying to adopt a cat to no avail. Here in the UK it is very rare to find an indoor rescue cat (I don't have a garden but a catio) so after many rejections I finally caved abd bought one.
The breeder swears he is 8 weeks old and completely weaned, but the veterinarian I took him too said he's at the most 6 weeks and quite skinny for his age. He is litter trained and goes in the litter everytime, although you can tell sometimes he's a bit confused and you need to guide him to the tray.
He's currently on deworming medication and since I took him home he vomited a few times, I guess because of stress or because his body isn't so used to wet food yet. I am giving him the same food the breeder said he was having before.
During the day he doesn't seem interested in food, he'll sleep for around 2/3 hours then have half hour play time, running around and exploring the new place. Then back to sleep. He drinks water fine and wees fine, he had bad diarreah but I can see he's getting better.
During the night it's a different story. He'll wake me at around 3am crying for food. He'll eat two bites of his wet food then climb in my bed and start sniffing and kneading my head, looking for somewhere to nurse from. I have to put him back down in front of his plate of food, he'll have two bites of that then rinse and repeat a few times until he goes back to sleep.
It breaks me heart because you can tell he was taken from his mum too soon, probably even before I took him, but I have no intention of giving him back as he was not being looked after properly. As soon as I got him I had to take him to an emergency vet appointment. He couldn't poop because he had a ball of dried feces and hair stuck to his bum and it was extremely painful when he was straining to go.
I asked the vet if I should be bottle feeding him and she said there should be no need, but his nighttime behaviour makes me think maybe it would be best? I just want him to grow stronger and gain weight steadily.
