So I adopted a cat about a month ago. His first week he’s fine, sweetest cat I’ve ever had. Second week he started peeing outside of the litter box. He does this weird dance I was informed was spraying but does not usually spray. He just goes through the motions and will walk off, mind you he is neutered. He peed about 4 different places in a two day timespan. After a trip to the vet I learned he has crystals & a UTI. The doctor prescribed 3 weeks (21 days) of antibiotics and ordered him to do the Purina vet brand food. The vet tech informed me it’s irregular since he is young (only 2) but since his PH was not super high (it was only 7) I could try to avoid the price of the vet brand and administer the antibiotics and give him purina pro-plan UTI health with both wet and dry food. He loves his wet food but recently I had been mixing the wet and dry more thinking it would be healthier.
Mr.kitty has been completely fine and doing a lot better, he hadn’t had an accident and he is coming up to the end of his 21 days as he only has 3 days left of antibiotics. This morning, I slept in a little longer than normal and heard him in my room. I did not pay him much attention and went back to sleep. I get up this morning to find he had peed in my room on a robe I always wear. I can not tell if he squatted & peed or sprayed. However, the urine in question did NOT smell like cat urine. It was sweet smelling, actually smelled like cranberry juice??? I feel like it is important to note he is not remarking on the same objects, I have been using enzymic cleaners. It’s always a different spot. It bothers me he did this because he has been doing so good. He was also very weird today, had the “zoomies” most of the day and would cry if I picked him up which is very not normal.
I called the vet and they brushed it off and said administer his antibiotics until the bottle is empty and they will see him in two weeks for a check up and not to worry. I am worried bc he is now regressing after doing so good! Also why was his urine sweet smelling? Is that just what a neutered cat’s spray smells like?
