Cat went to vet for UTI, still showing signs of pain

Hi all, like my title says: my five year old male cat went to the vet recently with a UTI. They put in a catheter, kept him for a couple of days, the works. They sent me home with painkillers and a med to relax the muscles around his urinary tract, as well as some special food for urinary health. We finished those meds over the course of seven days, and he seemed fine.... until now.

Cut to yesterday, about four days after he finished his meds, and I see him displaying the same symptoms that I initially brought him in for: attempting to pee but nothing coming out, meowing in pain. So I brought him back to the emergency vet last night. He apparently peed inside his carrier at the vet, so they sent me on my way with another round of drugs and painkillers. But now that he’s been home for 24 hours, he still has not peed (he’s been trying to), and is still doing things like hiding in the corner and is clearly agitated and in pain. He is still eating his wet food, though.

I’m really worried, and am coming to this sub asking for advice as to if I should be as concerned as I am or if I just need to be patient and wait for his meds to begin running their course (He was given his first dose about eight hours ago). I know UTIs can be deadly if not treated properly, but having been sent home from the vet last night with an OK I can’t help but feel I’m being paranoid.
